A North Dakota State University student on a "Pay It Forward" trip was struck and killed by a vehicle near Pensacola, Fla., Tuesday.

The student, Sarah Martinsen, a 21-year-old sociology major from Minot, ND, was jogging on the side of Highway 95A when she was hit by a passing Jeep. She died at the scene.

The accident is under investigation by local authorities, NDSU spokeswoman Najla Amundson said.

Martinsen was traveling with 40 students on a nine-day, six-city tour involving various community projects. Pensacola was the fifth stop on the tour.

"The group has decided to continue on to the sixth city, New Orleans, in honor of her," said Amundson.
