NDSU names Hanson, former Bison player and faculty member, as interim president

FARGO - Richard Hanson will be interim president of North Dakota State University.

The state Board of Higher Education voted unanimously today to appoint the former Bison athlete and faculty member to the temporary position.

Chancellor Bill Goetz and board President Richie Smith interviewed Hanson Thursday for the job. President Joseph Chapman has announced he will resign Jan. 2.

Hanson, 59, is president of Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. He spent 15 years at NDSU as a faculty member and administrator.

Goetz said they are considering a start date of Dec. 1. The salary would be $175,000 for the seven-month appointment.
