Fargo native named commander of famed Navy Blue Angels
NAS PENSACOLA, Fla. – Fargo native Cmdr. Brian Kesselring has been named commanding officer and flight leader of the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron the Blue Angels for the squadron's 2020 and 2021 air show seasons.
A panel of admirals and former commanding officers selected Kesselring to succeed Capt. Eric Doyle.
Applicants are required to have a minimum of 3,000 flight hours and be in current command or have had past command of a tactical jet squadron.
Kesselring earned degrees in physics, mathematics and business administration from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., and he holds a master's degree in national security strategy from the U.S. Naval War College.
Kesselring will officially take command of the squadron at the end of the air show season in November.
As the Blue Angels' commanding officer, Kesselring will lead a squadron of 141 personnel and serve as the demonstration flight leader.
The Blue Angels are scheduled to perform 56 shows in 29 locations for the 2020 season.
