A north-bound pickup truck hit a moose shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 29 about seven miles north of Grand Forks, injuring the driver and causing subsequent crashes and a brief closure of the roadway, according to a Highway Patrol trooper who responded to the scene.
The small truck hit the moose, went into the ditch and turned, apparently up on its side, the trooper said.
A second northbound vehicle, a minivan, hit what had become a moose carcass on the roadway, then also hit the ditch, then the pickup truck, pushing it back upright unto its wheels.
A third northbound vehicle, also a minivan, hit the carcass and later had mechanical problems from moose intestines wrapping around the driveshaft, the trooper said.
Each vehicle had a driver and no passengers.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks and appeared to have serious injuries,although the information was yet to be confirmed, said the trooper while on his way to the hospital shortly before 1 a.m. Friday.
The driver of the second vehicle appeared to have non-serious injuries and the driver of the third vehicle was not injured, the Patrol trooper said.
I-29 was closed for about 10 minutes while law enforcement and ambulance personnel responded.
It happened near mile marker 150 on I-29, which is near Manvel, N.D., and the call came to the Patrol about 10:30 p.m.
