WAUBUN, Minn. — A 68-year-old man has died after his vehicle veered off the road and came to rest in a nearby pond.
According to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol, the man, whose name has not yet been released, was a resident of Waubun, and was traveling east on State Highway 113 at about noon on Thursday, May 12, when his Jeep Grand Cherokee left the road in Lake Grove Township. The vehicle hit a guardrail and rolled into a ditch on the south side of the road, then into a pond.
The report said the man was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, but his airbag was deployed.
The patrol is expected to release the man's name Friday afternoon.
The Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office, White Earth Police Department and Waubun Fire Department also responded to the scene.
