A trucker from northern Minnesota is missing after his vehicle broke through the ice this morning on Lake of the Woods, according to the Ontario Provincial Police, or OPP, Communications Unit.

Sgt. Ted Becker said the OPP received a call at 9:12 a.m. after a person waiting for a load of gravel became worried when the driver was late. He went looking for the vehicle and found a hole in the ice on the western shore of Lake of the Woods near the Northwest Angle, about a mile east of Monument Bay Lodge.

Becker said authorities have set up an underwater camera and already found the truck in an 18-feet deep area of the lake. They were still trying to locate the driver.

The OPP Dive Team was called to the area and will arrive sometime Sunday to assist in the search.

The Kenora, Ont., Ambulance Service and local police responded to the scene along with the OPP. The incident is still under investigation, and the driver's name will not be released until next of kin is notified.
