Midway earned a spot in the Region 16C amateur baseball tournament with two wins last weekend.
The Snurdbirds opened the Lake and Pine League North Division double-elimination playoffs with a 13-3 win over Nevis last Saturday and a 5-3 victory over Wolf Lake Sunday to secure a return trip to the region tournament.
Midway scored four times in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings to break open a 1-1 tie and defeat Nevis via the 10-run rule in the playoff opener last Saturday afternoon.
Ben Davis led Midway's 11-hit offensive attack by going 3 for 3. Mike Baso went 2 for 3 with three runs and Chris Baso went 2 for 3, including a two-run home run, with two runs and two RBI. Travis Lusti also drove in two runs, Kyle Dormanen went 1 for 3 and scored three times and Jake Lund went 1 for 2 with two runs. Drew Rasmussen, Jeff Marjamaa and Brad Lusti also scored runs for Midway. Mike Baso, Lund, Brad Lusti and Davis contributed one RBI each.
Andy Baso went the distance, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out seven. Baso improved to 4-1 on the season.

James Burkman and Lund combined for seven hits and Pete Marjamaa and Brad Lusti combined on an eight-hitter in leading Midway past Wolf Lake on Sunday.
Wolf Lake jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Midway used a three-run sixth inning to seal the win.
Burkman went 4 for 4 with a run and an RBI and Lund went 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI to lead the Snurdbirds' offense. Rasmussen, Mike Baso and Chris Baso scored the other runs for Midway while Chris Baso and Brad Lusti chipped in one RBI.
Marjamaa allowed three unearned runs on six hits over the first seven innings for the win. Marjamaa struck out four in improving to 4-1 on the season. Brad Lusti picked up the save by allowing two hits and two walks during two scoreless innings in relief.
In last Saturday's other North Division playoff opener, Corey Pudas threw a two-hitter in leading Wolf Lake to a 17-1 victory. In Sunday's elimination game, Staples defeated Nevis 10-0 as the Shysters ended the season with a 2-15 record.
Midway will play either Wolf Lake or Staples for the North Division title Sunday afternoon at Midway. Midway will carry a 26-8 overall record into that championship game.
