Jesse Scott Jones, 46, of Menahga died Wednesday morning when his snowmobile was hit by a vehicle on Hwy. 71, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.

At approximately 7:12 a.m., the report states that Jones was southbound in the ditch east of Hwy. 71 at 350th Street, south of Menahga, when he tried to climb the ditch to get onto the shoulder. Jones' 2007 Polaris 440 snowmobile ended up crossing into the northbound traffic lane, where he was struck by a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Andrew Vaverek, 30, of Browerville.

Road conditions were dry and no alcohol was involved, according to the report. The Wadena County Sheriff and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources assisted at the scene.
