A program to help children as young as 3 develop literacy and motor skills is now offered in Menahga School.
Children from the Menahga, Sebeka, Park Rapids and surrounding communities have been taking classes with student teacher Lianna Vry at Menahga Elementary School.
About 60 students are now registered in the program, which is offered four days a week, with morning and afternoon sessions.
"Kids get used to the building, establish a routine and meet teachers," said elementary principal Joleen DeLaHunt.
Children ages 3 to school age can begin learning emergent strategy in math, reading and writing, DeLaHunt added.

Additionally, they're able to develop motor skills by cutting and pasting and identifying colors.
"It boosts their skills to help them be ready by the time they enter kindergarten," DeLaHunt said.
School readiness costs $150 for the entire year, where children from districts outside Menahga can register.
School buses are available for the morning sessions that begin at 8 a.m. but parents must pick up students when the sessions end.
Morning and afternoon sessions are offered Tuesday through Friday and DeLaHunt said the school might be adding an evening session to make transportation easier for parents who are interested in signing up.
