Marion "Minnie" Augustine Wells, 82, of Guthrie, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 at her granddaughter Angie's home.
She was born Nov. 14, 1925 in Bemidji to Alex and Minnie (Sletten) Golla.
As a young girl she moved with her family to Shevlin where she attended school until 8th grade and graduated from Bagley High School in 1942. She graduated from Bemidji Teachers College in 1944. She taught at Pine Center and Tenstrike Schools.
She married George A. Wells June 11, 1946 in Grand Rapids. They moved to Cass Lake and in 1955 they moved to Guthrie and ran the Guthrie Hartz Store.
She taught at the Guthrie School and later taught Head Start at Birch Hall. She finished her four-year degree in 1971 and her masters degree in 1977. In 1978 she started teaching special education at the Bemidji High School retiring at the age of 62.

She sponsored numerous children for over 40 years with Children's International.
She is survived by her daughters, Ruth (Leo) Soukup of Bemidji and Marilyn (Hal) Geller of Guthrie; sons, George W. (Sue) of Bemidji, David (Pheobe) of Guthrie, Tim (Russ) of Cannon Falls, Rocky (Cathy) of Baxter; sister, Lucy Magoon of Cass Lake; 23 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2001, stepfather Theodore Jensen, sister Mary Sletten and brother George.
Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Funeral Services: 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji with Rev. Mark Papke-Larson officiating.
Casket bearers: Jamie Powell, Josh, John and Steven Wells, Gunner Geller and Greg Anderson.
Interment: Guthrie Cemetery in Guthrie.
The family prefers memorials to be given to North Country Hospice of Bemidji or Operation Smile.
