Fargo police are recommending prosecutors charge a 20-year-old Fargo man with manslaughter in connection with the early morning July 26 assault that left a Fargo man dead.
Ronald Hammersmith, 47, died after being assaulted around 2 a.m. while walking home from downtown Fargo.
Police Chief Keith Ternes would not identify the suspect Thursday but said authorities turned over police reports and other documents related to the case to prosecutors on Wednesday.
Ternes would not release Hammersmith's cause of death.
Cass County State's Attorney Birch Burdick said he is reviewing the report and has not yet made a decision regarding the case.

Hammersmith was walking home from downtown Fargo about 2:30 a.m. when he was attacked between the 200 and 400 blocks of 10th Street South in Fargo.
An autopsy was conducted July 29, but police did not release the results of the exam.
In July 1965, when he was 3, Hammersmith was found floating facedown in Lake Ashtabula, near Valley City, N.D., and was rescued by a local resort owner.
He was hospitalized for some time and he suffered brain damage, a cousin has said.
