Man sentenced for mushroom-laced brownies

An identical charge, as well as a felony charge of first-degree controlled substance crime, were dismissed in a plea agreement.

According to court records: On July 24 a state trooper pulled over VanKirk's passenger car on Highway 10 near the Soo Pass Ranch because the windows were tinted too darkly.

He allowed the trooper to search the car, and the search revealed 1.3 grams of amphetamine, 13 grams of marijuana in a glass jar in the glove compartment, 16 grams of marijuana in a duffel bag, and in the back seat a paper grocery bag containing tin foil-wrapped chocolate goodies laced with hallucinogenic mushrooms.

He was sentenced Wednesday by District Judge Peter Irvine to 13 months in prison, execution of sentence stayed five years.

He was placed on supervised probation for five years. He must serve 180 days in jail, with sentencing to service privileges granted. He was fined $1,000 plus court fees and must complete chemical dependency treatment and submit to random drug testing.
