Steven George Whitaker, 42, of 21943 Highway 227, Sebeka has been sentenced in Becker County District Court to 12 years in prison for first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
He was also convicted of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
According to court records:
On Sept. 15, 2007, a 16-year-old girl reported a sexual assault. Investigation revealed that Whitaker, a family friend, had babysat the girl and her siblings on numerous occasions, and had engaged in multiple sexual acts with the girl over a period of several years. A Becker County jury found him guilty Sept. 19, and he was sentenced Wednesday by District Judge Peter Irvine to 144 months in prison.
He must register as a sexual offender for 10 years following his release. He was ordered to participate in inpatient sexual offender treatment in prison.

He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim or her family and to abstain from viewing pornography.
