A man here is facing a felony child abuse charge after allegedly striking his 10-year-old daughter in the face because she was pestering him.
Bartley Augustus Kent, 62, is charged in Cass County District Court with the Class C felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.
Police were called to the residence last Saturday after the girl went to a neighbor's with a black eye and said "Look what my dad did to me," according to court documents.
The documents state:
When officers contacted Kent, he immediately stated "This is about a black eye isn't it?"

When the officer asked what happened, Kent said he was by a table earlier in the day and the girl was pestering him so he reached back and back handed her in the left eye.
When asked if he thought that was an appropriate response, Kent did not answer.
