Barnes County dispatch said law enforcement is currently at the scene of the crash.

The man, said to be in his 20s, has not yet been identified.

According to NewsDakota.com, the man fired gunshots into Brothers III, a convenience store, around 5:30 p.m. on the east side of the city.

Owners of the store told NewsDakota a man with a high-powered rifle fired three or four rounds into the ceiling of the store while sitting in his pickup in the middle of Main Street.

The man also fired one round into Dakota Silver, a liquor store across the street from the convenience store, which is owned by the same family, reported NewsDakota. He then fled the scene.

A car accident was then reported near Baldhill Dam - about nine miles north of the city - at 6:05 p.m.

Rescue crews found the man dead at the scene of the crash and made the connection of the two incidents a short time later.

NewsDakota said the man was not fleeing law enforcement when he crashed his vehicle into a power pole by the dam.
