Menahga hires new high school principal

According to Interim Superintendent Kevin Wellen, Michael Schmidt has worked at the Staples-Motley School District for the last 11 years, most recently as high school principal.

In a quick special meeting, the Menahga School Board approved a high school principal contract with Michael Schmidt, beginning with the 2022-23 school year.

According to Interim Superintendent Kevin Wellen, Schmidt has worked at the Staples-Motley School District for the last 11 years, most recently as high school principal.

“He was unanimously recommended by our interview team and his contract was unanimously approved by the board,” Wellen said.

Schmidt officially starts in his role July 1, and Wellen said he “is eager to start in this new leadership role.”

“It’s a voluntary program or classroom that’s in schools throughout Minnesota,” explained MHS Principal Schmidt , that’s designed to assist students academically, socially and emotionally.
