Hubbard County is upgrading its E911 system.

County Sheriff Cory Aukes got approval from county commissioners last week on a quote from Motorola Solutions for the VESTA 9-1-1 As-A-Service.

The Nex-Gen E911 Phone system currently being used “has a five-year shelf life,” Aukes explained. “We currently own it. It is highly recommended that it gets upgraded every five years.”

This E911 Independent Emergency Services system is utilized in the handling of emergency phone calls and SMS/Texts that arrive at the sheriff office’s dispatch center.

The county received two quotes for the upgrade. Motorola Solutions had a substantially lower bid of $134,366 for a five-year contract compared to Independent Emergency Services’ $237,723.

Aukes noted the cost of this upgrade will be paid out of his department’s 911 budget, which has a balance of $339,000.

He recommended leasing the equipment and paying the bill in full for a discount.
