Line forms early for COVID-19 food aid

A two-lane, drive-through distribution formed for boxes of produce, dairy products and meat, disappearing fast off the Calvary Lutheran Church parking lot.

When he saw vehicles lined up around the block and onto the highway, Pastor Stephen Norby called it an amazing sight.

The line formed early for the COVID-19 Food Assistance Program food drop, Monday morning at Calvary Lutheran Church. Volunteers served a procession of vehicles with boxes of produce, dairy products and meat in two-lane, drive-through style.

The food drop was sponsored by the Hubbard County Food Shelf, but did not require identification and was open to anyone, whether they were food shelf clients or not.

According to food shelf director Bob Hansen, the dairy boxes included shredded and block cheese, and the meat boxes contained bacon, chicken patties and chicken wieners. Extra dairy products, including gallons of milk and tubs of cottage cheese, were on stand-by in case the cheese ran out.
