Levy referendum program is set

An informational program on the proposed levy referendum for the Park Rapids Schools is planned at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9 at the Park Rapids Area High School auditorium.

An informational program on the proposed levy referendum for the Park Rapids Schools is planned at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9 at the Park Rapids Area High School auditorium.

The program will offer professional opinions and projections about the school district's need for an operating levy referendum.

Superintendent Glenn Chiodo will give brief remarks on the series of events that has led to the school district's present day funding situation.

Guest speaker will be Mary Ciccone of Parents United for Public Schools, a statewide, grass-roots organization of concerned and informed Minnesota parents and citizens committed to Minnesota's leadership in quality public education.

Also scheduled to speak on the economic impact on the community are a representative of the Hubbard County Regional Economic Development Commission, as well as area employers including Mark Hewitt of Northwoods Bank, Dianne Dennis of Coldwell Banker Clack & Dennis Real Estate, John Kelly of North Star Orthodontics, Helen Keezer, St. Joseph's Area Health Services board chair, and others.

Some Park Rapids students also will offer their perspectives.

There will be some opportunity for questions and answers and the session is scheduled to conclude at 8:45 p.m.

The program, co-sponsored by the Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and League of Women Voters, will follow the school board candidate forum. The candidate forum will run from 6 to 7:15 p.m., also at the high school auditorium.
