Why no to

the levy?

I see a lot of effort to get people to vote for the school levy but why is it such a hard sell? I think it is because of the track record of the school board in throwing away money we have given them. I know it makes me mad.

Osage joined the district with the understanding that their local school would remain open. A small fortune was spent to remodel the school and then it was closed and sold for pennies on the dollar. Want to know about declining enrollment? Go watch the Menahga school bus pick up its load in Osage. And to add injury to insult they are still paying school taxes to Dist. 309.

The old middle school... The big debate was how much it was going to cost to have it torn down. But it now seems to be solid enough for a growing apartment complex.

Frank White School... Contractors have told me that it was remodeled before the leaking roof was fixed.

Technology... We have paid for all those computers but do the students know about Boolean logic? (That is what makes a computer work.) Playing on the Internet will not make them into a computer expert any more than standing in a garage will turn them into a car.

The new school... The paper wouldn't print the names that I have heard that building called. It looks like a corporate headquarters of a Fortune 500 company. Wasted space and high ceilings to heat may be fine for IBM but why here?

Now the students will suffer if we don't give the school board more money to run what we paid for. It all makes about as much sense as buying a new house so grand you can't afford furniture or heat.
