July 4th spectacular

This 4th of July was a terrific one for the Park Rapids Lakes Area made possible only through the priceless contributions of area businesses and volunteers. A record number of 140 units were in our parade. The delightful Community Band concert, legendary Rotary fireworks and the 30th anniversary of the Jokela ProWest PBR Bull Ride were nothing short of spectacular.

Each parade participant took time to prepare a parade entry, purchase treats for spectators and precious holiday time to make the event so wonderful for our community. Special thanks to our parade committee, Lezli Zimmerman, David W. Konshok, Mark E. Larson, Mike Willie, Stephanie Mercil and Rotaract volunteers for their commitment and dedication. Special thank you to the Park Rapids Police for directing the parade and Hubbard County Sheriff's Department for participating this year and to the Headwaters Country Club for donating golf carts on their busiest day! Overall, our grateful thanks to our always generous businesses without whose sponsorship, none of these events would be possible.

We commend Randy and Denese Jokela on this year's PBR Bull Ride. It was extremely well run and endlessly entertaining. The F-16 Flyover was a real highlight! The Chamber's beer concession was filled with 35 enthusiastic Chamber member volunteers having a great time while helping with an important fundraiser. This year the Chamber partnered with the Park Rapids Wrestling Booster Club who supplied another 22 amazing volunteers to round out the schedule. The Hubbard County Sheriff's Department and Mounted Posse are to be commended for their commitment to making the dance safe and enjoyable for all.

The Park Rapids Lakes Area is a community that knows how to treat visitors - with class, grace and style. Beyond hospitality, our community understands well that without the priceless hours of volunteer time and business support given so freely here, none of these events would happen at all. While taking care of their own business issues during this bustling season, volunteer after volunteer has stepped forward to give of their time and talent to make our community events shine for visitors and residents alike.
