Are you ready for the highest tax rate in America? Here are just some of the proposed tax bills in the Minnesota House of Representatives. These are real and each one has a House File number.
Rep. Bernie Lieder (D-Crookston) wants to raise fuel taxes on gasoline, E85, LP gas and compressed natural gas by 50 percent; Rep. Scott Kranz (D-Blaine) wants homeowners to face a 50 percent fee increase when filing any papers related to the purchase, transfer, mortgaging, sale or other transfer of property; Rep. Melissa Horman (D-Brooklyn Park) is proposing a new nickel-a-gallon tax on all paint sold.
Even the dead won't be left alone as Rep. Tom Anzelc (D-International Falls) wants a new tax on dead people in his area to pay for the Lakeview Cemetery Association and Rep Bernie Lieder (D-Crookston) wants to triple the tax on hearses. Rep. Joe Mullery (D-Minneapolis) wants a 10 percent tax on people who give gifts; Rep. Debra Hilstrom (D-Brooklyn Center) wants to raise a tax on cell phones, landline phones and other telecommunications devices by 46 percent; Rep. Mindy Greiling (D-Roseville) wants to raise income taxes by $252 million dollars; Rep. Ann Lenczewski (D-Bloomington) wants to raise income taxes on 170,000 taxpayers.

Rep. Brita Sailer (D-Park Rapids) wants to raise fees on video and electronic equipment sales. The frosting on the cake proposed by Sen. Tom Bakk (D-Cook) is a nearly $1 billion dollar income tax increase that hits all Minnesotans and would create the highest state tax rate in the United States.
