Letters: Need to provide tools for future

Several weeks ago my son came to my husband and me with a question: "Don't you think you've protested long enough with this referendum vote?" To the point - yes, it is time to think of the education needs of my grandchildren and their peers.

Several weeks ago my son came to my husband and me with a question: "Don't you think you've protested long enough with this referendum vote?" To the point - yes, it is time to think of the education needs of my grandchildren and their peers.

We need to provide the tools for these future leaders and decision-making citizens of the United States to be equipped to address this changing world we live in. My concern as a citizen of the Park Rapids School Dist. 309 is the responsible management of funds allocated to the district from tax dollars, etc.

I have to be accountable in many areas in my life; accountability is a God given responsibility. We need to be accountable and responsible.

We need citizens who are interested in the education of the young people. Proverbs 22:6 holds a promise. "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." Along with the three "Rs" we need to teach these future leaders to respect others; to take care of the needs of others not just No. 1; to develop integrity which includes honesty, morality and goodness. How can we ever say that an education in the public school system should not touch on Godly principles.

By the way, yes I'm done protesting and I too have been taught a lesson through this whole process. I need to be a responsible citizen. I need to take my faith into all areas of my life and make my decisions guided by the Godly principles I believe in. I'm voting yes on the referendum and I encourage other past "no" voters to consider the world our children need to be prepared to govern as adults.

I am making a public commitment to be a concerned citizen in my community. A community that is equipped to move along into the 21st Century capable of providing all that is needed to enable the future generations to continue living in this free democratic country; the United States of America.
