Helping our
troops vote
I really appreciate the right to vote, especially after serving in Iraq and seeing what people there are willing to do to obtain that same right.
That's why I was impressed when I heard that Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer recently went to Camp Shelby, MS, to visit troops about to be deployed to Iraq. Many of the troops are young and will face not only the challenges of trying to vote from a war zone but also of being first-time voters. Mrs. Kiffmeyer met with officers in charge of helping troops vote and discussed how to make the process as barrier-free as possible.
Mrs. Kiffmeyer has, in many ways, made military voters a priority and I believe deserves applause for that.
