Members of Congress are in the process of holding hearings throughout the country concerning proposed immigration legislation. Meanwhile, please contact Minnesota Congressional delegation members urging that the enforcement-only House bill be rejected. This harsh and unworkable bill makes all undocumented a felon to be deported, and those who assist an undocumented person to be charged with a felony. Hundreds of miles of fence are being constructed along the border. All this in the nation of immigrants.
Urge that the Senate bill be expanded to include a more simple and direct route to citizenship, and that the proposed detention expansion be eliminated. Having innocent people who have often suffered greatly in their country of origin being placed in detention is a travesty of justice.
Legislation that reflects our nation's commitment to human rights and basic human values needs to be adopted.
