Drive collected 163 units

A total of 183 people volunteered to donate blood, 122 were able to give and 163 units of blood were collected during Park Rapids' blood drive. Forty-one donors donated on the automated 2RBC machine, which collects two units of red blood cells at once. Six donors were first-timers!

Sponsoring blood drives is a very important responsibility in communities to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply.

Lloyd and Carol Schrum coordinated the drive and the Park Rapids Lions Club sponsored and assisted with recruiting donors, publicity, providing refreshments and registering donors. Others who assisted the day of the drive were: Coborn's, Park Rapids Enterprise, DeLaHunt Broadcasting Corp. and Larry Engel. Space to hold the drive was provided by the American Legion.

Donations will help meet the blood needs of many patients in 73 area hospitals served by United Blood Services. Blood is for sharing; you have truly given the "gift of life."
