Judicial elections are on the ballot again this year. Our judicial elections are changing because some of the ground rules have changed, opening the door to politicized state judicial elections. We at Minnesota Women Lawyers support an impartial and nonpolitical state judiciary.

We've prepared a short quiz on the judicial elections and how they are changing. You can access it from an ad in www.parkrapidsenterprise.com . Paper copies of the quiz will also be available at two events in the coming weeks: a discussion of The Appeal by John Grisham at the Park Rapids Public Library at 7:00 pm on Sept. 11, 2008 and a round table discussion about judicial impartiality sponsored by the Park Rapids League of Women Voters and others from 7 to 8:30 pm on Sept. 17 at the Hubbard County Courthouse.

Everyone who takes our quiz will be entered into a drawing to be held on Friday Sept. 19 for a gift certificate to Amazon or for a copy of the John Grisham book. We appreciate your community's attention to the important issue of the judicial elections. Educated and aware voters are the only real protection for a fair judiciary.
