On behalf of Progress Park Rapids stewards, we would like to appeal to all the voters in Park Rapids School Dist. 309 to vote in favor of the levy referendum. After four failed referendums, the school district has cut and tightened as much as they can. Now it is time for the voters to show support for all students by voting for the referendum.
Education equals jobs. We can't be happy with class sizes of 35-40 students. Passing the levy will allow a more reasonable student/teacher ratio. Statistics show that students involved in extracurricular activities are more likely to be successful in school and out. This is one of those rare occasions when we would rather be last than first. We would rather be one of the last school districts to pass a levy referendum than the first school district to cut extracurricular activities.
If the levy referendum does not pass this time, it will not be just the school and students that suffer but the entire community. An economically viable community needs more than just jobs. It needs schools, churches, retail, housing, health care and recreational activities to name a few. The fact is if the levy referendum does not pass, the impact to the community will be devastating.
Vote yes and send a clear message that a strong educational system is important for our economic health.
