Careless drivers

created 'near miss'

At noon Wednesday I was traveling south on 71 past Calvary Church. I stopped and a blue pickup that was following me passed me on the right with the male driver yelling at me, "Don't you have any blinkers?" The car following him passed me on the right as well. I was not in the turn lane and I did not have my blinkers on.

The reason I stopped was because two boys were in the crosswalk pushing their bikes across the highway. When I stopped, they proceeded across. Because the male in the truck was busy yelling at me, he didn't notice the boys who were nearly hit by his vehicle. Neither he nor the car behind him braked. I was almost sorry I stopped because it created a situation that put them in danger.

Please take note that when a vehicle stops and is not in the turn lane, there could be people in the crosswalk. It is illegal to pass on the right and even more importantly - it is very dangerous.

During the summer, the number of vehicles increases but so do the pedestrians who are trying to cross these busy roads. You were lucky this time and so were those two boys. Keep your anger in check and spend the second or two it takes to keep everyone safe.
