Letters: Blessed to be a blessing

On Thursday night we attended an excellent girls swim meet at the Park Rapids High School pool. It got me to thinking even more passionately about what we have here in the Park Rapids area and what we could so easily lose.

We are on a fixed income and are budgeting a little tighter this year. We will not be going south this winter. We don't go out to eat often. We tithe at our church. We do pay property taxes and we will vote yes on the school referendum.

Life isn't all about me. Our kids and our community are important to us. If the quality of education (and yes, I consider the arts and athletics also to be important ingredients) is not the best we can provide, many parents will send their children elsewhere. I'm concerned, not only for all the areas of life that will be affected if we see a exodus of folks from our school district, but I'm concerned also for those children that can't move to another district. Will they be getting the best we can provide?

We are transplants to Minnesota and love this state. We feel blessed to be here! We have been privileged and are grateful for all our abundance. We have been blessed to be a blessing. We will vote yes on the school referendum.

Please don't hang on to old hurts or assumptions. Consider again what will happen if you don't vote yes.
