ADK celebrates
founding in 1947
October is celebrated as the founding month of Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK), an international honorary sorority for women educators, founded in 1947 as an organization of women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism and world understanding. Members have given millions of dollars in scholarships, monetary gifts and volunteered millions of hours for service to their communities.
Alpha Phi, the local chapter, serves the Menahga, Nevis and Park Rapids area. The 24 members of this chapter have built a fellowship while promoting excellence in education. Over $10,000 has been raised and given in scholarships to local graduates pursuing a career in education. The local chapter also supports activities of the Historical Museum and public and school libraries.
If you are a woman educator with a minimum of two years of experience and would like more information about ADK, contact the local president Shelli Walsh at 732-4486. The chapter meets monthly from September through June. The October meeting is at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24.
