A critical day

for Dist. 309

Nov. 7 is a critical day for Dist. 309. The district needs additional funds to maintain our current programs and restore some of the reductions that have occurred over the past five years.

The voters must vote yes for the levy referendum Nov. 7 if the children of Dist. 309 are going to continue to receive the educational and recreational experience they need, deserve and desire.

I trust each of the voters will spend the necessary time to inform themselves of the issues and the effect of their vote. If additional information is needed to make an informed decision, please contact Superintendent Chiodo, Vote Yes committee members, district staff or a school board member.

There are several issues people have shared with me that cause concern over whether they can vote yes. The one issue that has to be addressed by the school board is the matter of trust. I have been on the school board approximately nine and a half years and have been the board chairperson the past six years. I assume the issue of trust can be addressed to me as I have been as responsible for what has happened or not happened as anyone.

There has never been any intent by the board to purposely mislead, lie or distort the truth concerning the functions of Dist. 309. We have done the best job we could do given the information and knowledge we had on any issue concerning the district. Unfortunately, not all the decisions the board has made since I have been a member were necessarily the best; however, the intent of the board was to take the information and knowledge we had and do what the majority thought was right for our district.

We need people's trust and confidence if our district is going to be successful. I encourage people to please do not vote no Nov. 7 because of your distrust of the school board. Only the children, parents and staff will be harmed by your no vote.

Please hold the school board accountable and responsible for its responsibilities. I welcome your contact.

Frank Schaap,

chairperson

Dist. 309 School Board
