Even though rain, wind and cold temperatures ruled the day June 9, the day before the 7th annual Cystic Fibrosis Association (CFA) Family Fishing Tournament, the volunteers' efforts were blessed with a beautiful, sunny day June 10. Tournament hostess, Wanita Nosbush of Cedar Shores Resort on Long Lake had assured everyone the Park Rapids weather would cooperate and she was proven correct.
Val and Bruce Renshaw, and Carlotta and Rob Schwartz, originators and long-time co-chairs of the CFA Family Fishing Tournament wanted their last year as co-chairs to be a good one, and they weren't disappointed. Everything from stainless steel grills to outdoor patio sets, from deep-cycle batteries to St. Croix rods, and from diamond and sapphire rings to golf week packages were included in the raffle and auction items. And all prizes went Saturday afternoon to those who either bought raffle tickets or participated in the silent auction.
The event has become a part of Park Rapids' summer. Area businesses have been so cooperative and the people from eastern North Dakota and around Park Rapids have begun to plan on the event being here each year. We look forward to holding the 8th annual CFA Family Fishing Tournament in 2007 at Cedar Shores because area young people with cystic fibrosis continue to need our help. But we will need a group of individuals to pool their time, agree to volunteer and do the footwork that Bruce, Val, Rob and Carlotta have done for the past seven years. Anyone willing to help is encouraged to contact us at 701-222-3998. You can also contact Jerry and Wanita Nosbush at 732-4626.
In the meantime, we want to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers and businesses in the Park Rapids area and those that have cooperated with CFA in this tournament from Fargo and surrounding areas. We also want to thank Jerry and Wanita and the "fearless foursome" whose idea started this event and continued it with tremendous enthusiasm and dedication for seven wonderful years: Bruce and Val Renshaw and Rob and Carlotta Schwartz of Fargo. We can't thank you all enough.
