Legion qualifies for district tournament

The Park Rapids American Legion baseball team survived the losers' bracket by winning three straight games at the Northern Subdistrict 6 tournament to earn a spot in the District 6 tournament.

The Park Rapids American Legion baseball team survived the losers' bracket by winning three straight games at the Northern Subdistrict 6 tournament to earn a spot in the District 6 tournament.

Park Rapids opened the double-elimination playoffs with a 7-1 win over Bemidji Tuesday night at Park Rapids.

After dropping a 7-6 decision to Little Falls Wednesday at Little Falls, Post 212 rebounded to eliminate Aitkin 11-3 Wednesday night.

The tournament continued Thursday at Brainerd as Park Rapids eliminated Bemidji with a 7-2 victory before eliminating Brainerd 20-17.

Park Rapids, which last qualified for the district tournament in 2002, will open district play Wednesday night at 5 at Bemidji State University.
