Lawrence Leo McCarren, 88, of Yelm, WA died Dec. 25, 2007 in Olympia, WA.
He was born on the family farm in Becker County July 30, 1919. As a teenager and young adult during the Great Depression, he helped support his family. On Oct. 10, 1940 he joined the Minnesota National Guard and was mobilized for active duty Feb. 10, 1941. He was stationed in various posts before being shipped over to fight in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge.
Following the war, he briefly returned to Park Rapids and rejoined the Army in 1948, serving until his retirement from active duty in 1963. He then worked for the State of Washington helping juve-nile delinquents find a bet-ter path in life. He retired again in 1984.
Surviving are his wife, Alma; six children, Jane (Duane), Larry (Carmen), Pat (Tina), Rob (Carla), Dana and Jacquie (Galan); brothers, Walter and Don; sister, Delores; eight grand-children and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Arlyne, as well as one brother, Bob, and two sis-ters, Esther and Betty.
