Lavern Richard Torkelson, 88, of Brooklyn Center, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 at North Ridge Care Center in New Hope.
He was born Oct. 26, 1919 in Becker County, Spruce Grove Township to Lewis and Enger (Kleppe) Torkelson. He attended a rural school near Wolf Lake and helped his parents on the family farm.
He married Ina Nieminen in 1939. They purchased a farm west of Menahga.
In 1961, he married Shirley Johnson. He worked at Flower City Brush Co. as a machinist until his retirement.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Vivian of Park Rapids, Virginia of Newark, Calif and Melissa Curtis of Hotchkiss, Colo; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara in infancy; one brother, Lawrence; sister, Cora Hawks and brother-in-law, Lloyd Hawks
Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 at Lutheran Church of the Master, 1200 69th Ave. N., Brooklyn Center.
