Morgan Hayes, 15, of Langdon, N.D., who caught the public's eye earlier this spring as she prepared for prom decked out in a turquoise dress and pink fedora, died this morning after a long battle with cancer.
She died at 8:20 a.m., her grandfather, Eugene Hayes of Emerado, N.D., told The Herald.
Morgan's battle with cancer began in February 2010 when Ewing's sarcoma was diagnosed. A second form of cancer, metastatic melanoma, was diagnosed in July 2010. She underwent treatment under the supervision of Dr. Nathan Kobrinsky at Sanford Health in Fargo. Morgan had been in hospice care at home in Langdon since late April.
At an early birthday party for her held Saturday, Morgan was not conscious, according to her grandfather.
