Detroit Lakes spoiled the Mid-State Conference opener for the Park Rapids baseball and softball teams by sweeping doubleheaders Tuesday.

The Lakers swept the Park Rapids baseball team in its season debut by scores of 2-0 and 5-4 at Detroit Lakes while the Detroit Lakes softball team swept the Panthers at Park Rapids by scores of 13-5 and 13-9.

The Park Rapids girls track and field team won the team title in its home debut Tuesday with 110 points while the boys finished sixth with 45 points. There were 11 teams that competed at Vern Weekley Field.

The Park Rapids boys tennis team split matches Tuesday at the Depot Courts, losing to Crookston 6-1 and defeating Perham 7-0.

The Park Rapids girls golf team opened the season by shooting a 444 for eighth place at Monday's Staples-Motley Invitational at The Legacy and followed with a 459 to tie for 10th place at Tuesday's Pelican Rapids Invitational at Wildflower.

The Park Rapids boys golf team opened the season by taking runner-up honors in a Mid-Minnesota Conference meet at The Vintage at Staples Monday. The Panthers carded a 249 and earned 15 points. Staples-Motley won the meet with a 224 and 32 points.
