Crosby-Ironton converted its open shots while Park Rapids didn't in a Mid-State Conference girls basketball game at the Area High School gym Friday night.
The Rangers shot 68 percent from the field (25 for 37, including 7 for 8 on 3-pointers) and made 16 of 20 free throws to spark a 73-41 victory. Park Rapids shot only 25 percent from the field (11 for 44) and missed 13 free throws to remain winless on the season.
"We've got to make shots," said Park Rapids head coach Jason Mielke, whose team made only 3 of 21 field goals and 8 of 17 free throws in the first half. "We had good looks, but we're not putting the ball in the basket."
Crosby-Ironton expanded an 11-2 lead to 24-7 with 8:14 to play in the first half before two free throws by Heather Tretbar and a jumper by Hannah Wolff made it 27-12 at the 2:20 mark. Two free throws by Danielle Dent kept the Panthers within 29-14 at the half.
Tretbar opened the second half with a 3-pointer, but a pair of 3-pointers by Katie Swanhorst sparked an 18-4 run that gave C-I a 47-21 advantage with 10:42 to play.
