Habitat for Humanity is building a home in Park Rapids in 2015 and is looking for applicants.
Habitat for Humanity helps people become homeowners.
Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity will be holding application/information workshops in Park Rapids at three locations:
n Northwoods Bank Meeting Room – 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6.
n Calvary Lutheran Church – 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6.
n Kinship of Park Rapids – 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6.
Applications will be made available at the meeting. At the workshop you will learn how to apply for a three bedroom home that will be built in Park Rapids in 2015.
The program accepts applications from people living in substandard housing that meet the income guidelines. They use a general guideline that is 30-50 percent of the median income.
The application is reviewed by the Family Selection Committee. If the guidelines are met, a home visit is set up and the full application process is started.
If accepted, the new “Habitat Partner Family” puts in 300 hours of labor (sweat equity) to help build a home with volunteers.
The family purchases the home at cost through a no interest Habitat for Humanity mortgage.
