Green Wave shuts down Panthers

East Grand Forks scored two goals within a span of eight seconds in the third period to seal a 5-0 victory over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team Saturday afternoon at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

Both Section 8A teams battled to a scoreless tie after the first period before the Green Wave scored three times in the second period. Carlee Kliner, Kelsey Swang and Grace Herndon scored for East Grand Forks.

Hilary Kujawa and Alex Hedlund opened the third period with back-to-back goals to conclude the scoring.

Goalie Cassandra Thlen made 49 saves as the Panthers fell to 1-15.

East Grand Forks im-proved to 12-7.
