An elderly Grand Forks woman was injured Monday afternoon after running a stop sign and colliding with a car near the Target parking lot, the Grand Forks Police Department said.

Jesse Asche, 23, told officers he was northbound on South 38th Street about 2:15 p.m. when a westbound vehicle driven by Mildred Reiten, 88, didn't stop at 38th Street and Ruemmele Road, the Target parking lot entrance.

Asche collided with her in the intersection, which caused Reiten's vehicle to spin and go southbound before stopping against a tree on the east berm of the street. She was taken to Altru Hospital by ambulance.

A nursing supervisor said Reiten still was in the emergency room at 6:45 p.m., but no update on her condition was available. Asche was not injured.

The incident is under investigation.
