You might not think there's a use for an ice scraper in August, but police say a Grand Forks man found one.
Zakaria Jama, 18, is accused of striking a 17-year-old over the head with a scraper, the kind traditionally used for chipping ice off windshields.
Officers responded to a report of a fight about 9 p.m. Monday on the 2000 block of 30th Ave. S. in Grand Forks.
The altercation left the victim, also from Grand Forks, with a small laceration on the top of his head that required stitches, according to a police report. Lt. Grant Schiller said the scraper, broken into two pieces, was taken into evidence.
Schiller said Jama and the victim knew each other. Police did not name the victim because he's a juvenile.

Jama appeared in court Tuesday on a charge of aggravated assault, a Class C felony, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Jama later posted $2,000 in bail and was released.
A message left for Jama at the Grand Forks County jail while he was in custody was not returned Tuesday. A phone number for Jama listed on a police citation was not in service.
He is scheduled for a pretrial hearing Sept. 23.
