Gordon Vincent Smith, 88, of Park Rapids, formerly of Osage, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 at home following a period of declining health.
He was born April 15, 1920 in Osage Township, Becker County to Earl and Nina (George) Smith. He attended country school near his home north of Osage.
As a young man he engaged in dairy farming with his father on the family farm. He raised dairy cattle and later began raising beef cattle.
He married Marie Crane Dec. 2, 1961 at Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids.
He is survived by his sister, Loraine (William) Michels of Park Rapids; sister-in-law, Georgine Smith of Park Rapids; three nieces; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his wife, who died in 1970; one brother, Donald; and his uncle, Charlie George.
Visitation: One hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Funeral service: 1:30 p.m. today (Saturday) at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with the Rev. Loren Ferch officiating. Organist will be Linda Szuszitzky. Soloist will be Sydney Henderson, who will sing "Amazing Grace," "How Great Thou Art" and "Canticle of the Sun."
Casket bearers: Michael Johnson, Jeff Sievers, Thomas Henderson, Daniel Michels, Jay Bjornson and Darrel Pollack.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery in Osage.
