In conjunction with the state's sesquicentennial, the Hubbard County Genealogy Society (HCGS) is seeking nominations for the "150 most influential people, places and events in Hubbard County's history."
On May 11, 2008, Minnesota will reach its 150th anniversary as the 32nd state in the United States of America.
The Minnesota Statehood Sesquicentennial Commission, created by the Legislature in 2005, joined by the Minnesota Historical Society, the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, along with Explore Minnesota Tourism, Minnesota State Parks and other state agencies and private and non-profit partners, is organizing Minnesota's 150th anniversary.
Beginning in January the Sesquicentennial will be a yearlong, statewide commemoration. There will be hundreds of events and activities throughout Minnesota honoring our past, celebrating who we are today and looking ahead, together, to the future.
The HCGS has taken on the mission of compiling the county's 150 most influential people, places and events.

Members are asking for submissions of information that is of importance to the shaping of the county. What people, places or events in Hubbard County do you think have had the most influence on our community's history and why?
"We're looking for accounts of people who have made a big difference in our county, not only throughout the past 150 years, but before also, of places and businesses that were important to the community and of events that have had a great effect on our history," said Karen Danks, vice president of the HCGS.
Statehood Week Festivities, May 11-18, include events in communities across Minnesota. Look for the HCGS publication in early May. The supplement will feature a profile of the 150 selected nominees, along with excerpts from the submissions and nominators' names.
The HCGS and volunteers will review the nominations.
Additional copies will be available at the Hubbard County Historical Museum where the Ira Benham Resource Center, the counties' historical research library, is located.
Submissions will be taken until Jan. 15 and can be e-mailed to hubcogs@yahoo . com or sent to the HCGS, PO Box 361, Park Rapids, MN 56470. More information is available on the society Web site at www.rootsweb . com/~mnhgs.
Students, groups and organizations are encouraged to take part. Volunteers are also needed to help with the project. Contact Danks at 732-0143 with questions.
The HCGS was organized in 1998 to bring together people interested in family research; to promote interest in genealogy and family history; to preserve records of pioneers and residents of Hubbard County and to provide a community research library.
