Fred Graba, 89, of Nimrod, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 at Lakewood Health System Nursing Home in Staples.

He was born Jan. 27, 1919 to George and Hannah (Hanson) Graba in Meadow Township, Wadena County. He attended school in District 32.

He served in the United States Army during World War II receiving an honorable discharge.

He married Gladys Ostlund Aug. 27, 1950. In 1955, the couple moved to Babbitt where he worked for Reserve Mining. In 1958 they returned to the family farm by Nimrod.

Surviving are his wife; daughter, Lanet (Delbert) Huttunen of Pembina, N.D.; sons, Danny (Anne) of Sebeka and Duane (Becky) of Nimrod; sisters, Irene Hilborn of Mesa, Ariz., Helen Ferenz of Eureka, Calif., Laura Bouzard of Santa Marie, Calif., Betty (Einer) Godo of Bellevue, Wash. and Arlene (Doug) Feazel of Tacoma, Wash; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son, Jed Fred Gaba, brother, Homer Carlson, three sisters, Bessie Westra, Bea Reber, Lillian Knese and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18 at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19 at Nimrod Lutheran Church with Pastor Raymond Hendrickson officiating. Lolita Myers will serve as organist. Congregational hymns will be "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace" and "What a Friend We have in Jesus."

Inurnment: Will be held at a later date.

Berg Nyland American Legion Post 456 of Sebeka will provide military honors.
