Those looking to wet their whistle at the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Frazee will soon be out of luck.

Post 7702 is on the state's list of delinquent taxpayers and can't accept any new alcohol deliveries until the bill is paid in full. The VFW's tax bill comes from late sales and use tax payments.

"The state says it's $10,000," said Jason Bauer, manager of the Frazee VFW.

He said that when the paperwork is filed, the bill should be between $6,000 and $7,000.

With no new deliveries, Bauer said that beer is running low.

"We're down to one kind and one keg," he said. "We're out of a lot."

The delinquency, Bauer said, comes from the retirement of the post's former bookkeeper and a member of the post who was supposed to take over bookkeeping duties wasn't up to speed on the filing process. He said that the delinquency is not due to a lack of money.

"He's not computer-literate and you have to file on the Internet," Bauer explained.

The plan is to get current within a month, he said.

"I want to have a shindig here next month," Bauer said.

The state's list of businesses that sell liquor, beer and wine that are delinquent on tax payments is online at www.taxes.state.mn.us on the left side of the homepage.
