Former Wadena County solid waste director terminated

The Wadena County Board terminated the employment of Scott Carpenter, who served as the solid waste director until he was placed on unpaid leave in March.

The Wadena County Board terminated the employment of Scott Carpenter, who served as the solid waste director until he was placed on unpaid leave in March.

The motion the board approved said the termination was due to "his misuse of county property, county funds and county employee time and resources," according to information provided by Auditor/Treasurer Char West.

The county attorney's office determined the language used in the motion, said Mike Gibson, a consultant who is overseeing the reorganization of the solid waste department. It follows an extensive investigation by both the Todd County and Wadena County sheriff's departments.

Carpenter's termination is effective Oct. 6, 2009.

The county attorney will decide if there is going to be prosecution, Gibson said.
