A former postal employee in Minto, N.D., charged with embezzling money has been sentenced to a year of probation and 75 hours of community service.

Laura Satterlund, 34, has paid back nearly $4,900 to the U.S. Postal Service, according to minutes from Monday's sentencing in federal court. Minto is north of Grand Forks.

Satterlund was accused of illegally issuing Postal Service money orders over several months in 2009. In a plea agreement, she pleaded guilty to a count of theft of government property, and the remaining counts against her were dismissed.

The Postal Service said Satterlund, who was serving as acting postmaster in Minto, was fired in January.
