The one day of summer was a peach, but vicious thunderstorms moved in overnight Monday, creating havoc.

An Itasca-Mantrap lineman was listening to power outages pour in over his two-way radio.

Damage was “all over,” he said. Trees toppled, especially near Little Sand Lake, causing power outages.

Little Sand reported numerous boats overturned on the lake.

Around 11:30 p.m. Monday, Hubbard County deputies began helping residents remove fallen trees from major roadways, including County 40, in order not to call the Highway Department out.

High winds pounded area lakes and sent boats loose from their moorings.

The temperature in Park Rapids hit 90 just before 4 p.m., but had plunged to 64 degrees by 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Temperatures will moderate a bit this week, with chances of thunderstorms by the weekend.
